Nation of Servants

Chip Tsao, a Hong Kong broadcaster, called the Philippines a "nation of servants". This resulted to varying reactions, usually angry, among the Filipinos. There's nothing wrong with being a servant. Everybody serves somebody. A nation leader is called a public servant. The Pope considers himself servant of the world. A mother and a father serve their children. In the spirit of volunteerism, we reach out to serve the needy. When a Chinese harmed a number of Chinese infants by putting melamine in infant's milk, it's not fair that all Chinese are like him. When the Abu Sayaf kidnaped three Red Cross volunteers, it's not fair to call Filipinos as terrorists. What is not acceptable in Cheap Tsao's attitude was how he treated his Filipino maid. The Chinese should be ashamed of Cheap Tsao because he humiliated the Chinese community by broadcasting his unwanted behavior.

The Irony of Life

March 11 marks my nth birthday. I don't celebrate my birthday splendidly. I simply make my Thanksgiving Mass special. On this day, I celebrated my thanksgiving at the San Agustin Church - one of the oldest churches in Intramuros that was built around in the 17th century. March 11, 2009. On this day, the ashes of Master Rapper, Francis "Kiko" Magalona aka FrancisM, is laid to rest at the Loyola Memorial Park in Marikina. After happily battling against the killer leukemia, the master rapper went home to his Master. Though I'm not a fan of FrancisM, I was saddened by his death. He was too young to die. Everybody could agree. One thing I admired about him was his nationalism expressed through his music (rap, rock, hip hop) and his own clothing line . His passion was true and genuine. His music speaks of values; not the no-nonsense type of rap. In fact, "Mga Kababayan Ko" and "Keleidoscope World" are the only rap music that I enjoy listening to. Fr

FrancisM's First TV Appearance

This video is Kiko's first TV appearance according to his friend Jojo Alejar. The show was Dance 10 (RPN 9, 1982) hosted then by Ray-n Fuentes. According to Jojo A. when he was guested in Eat Bulaga in a tribute to the Master Rapper, Kiko's dance group was called "Eclipse;" Jojo A's group was the "Tigers".

Francis Magalona passed away this March 6, 2009 at 12:00 noon. Francis M. is best remembered with his composition "Mga Kababayan" - a rap about Pinoy nationalism. This song elevated OPM (original Pilipino music) to a higher level that even the alta sociedad has loved to listen to. Francis M is best know as the Master Rapper. His songs always express values like love, unity, and nationalism contrasting most raps that do not make sense. Francis M was also known as Kiko. His music and culture has been known as Francism, based on his name Francis M. You can read Kiko's blog at. magalona.com  where he wrote about his battle against the killer cancer leukemia.  [Photo credits: www.igma.tv  ] My favorite among Kiko's songs is Kaleidoscope World. You can watch its beautiful video  here at YouTube . The lyric follows. Kaleidoscope World by Francis M.
